Hispaled | Lighting the way to the future of connected cities

Hispaled, a manufacturer of streetlights, relies on Wireless Logic's connectivity and network infrastructure to remotely manage its lighting fixtures through its RF Light 2 platform.

Hispaled - Smart Lightning

Hispaled is a lighting manufacturer that provides lighting for cities and facilities throughout Spain, from highways to soccer stadiums. Although the company initially specialised in developing LED lights for pharmacies, it has grown steadily over more than 15 years in business. It currently has more than 350,000 lighting fixtures installed throughout the country.

With more than 50 employees, the company runs a social integration program called Lighting Futures that has helped dozens of people integrate into society; it is aimed at people in vulnerable situations, who work in the mornings and receive assistance with their social integration and legalization. Hispaled invites these individuals to develop their skills and receive training in the afternoons to improve their employability by the end of the program, which lasts up to three years.

The challenge

Hispaled Smart Light Fixture

For a large-scale streetlight manufacturer, it is essential to be able to remotely manage its installations. To do this, they use equipment they developed in-house to centralise the management of several hundred devices from a single control hub where all the remote management logic is integrated. They also need to be able to remotely control electrical panels, network analyzers, power supplies and more.

They also have their own management platform, RF Light 2, which helps reduce maintenance costs and ensure better lighting quality in municipalities through individualized control of light fixtures and electrical panels. The goal is to ensure the proper supply of light to all endpoints, regardless of location, as well as their efficient management; therefore, the connectivity layer is critical. To this end, they contacted Wireless Logic in search of a reliable and resilient connectivity solution.

The solution

Wireless Logic provides Hispaled with a multi-carrier connectivity solution that enables its devices to connect to the best available network at each location. In addition, an IPsec VPN tunnel is deployed on the NetPro private network to facilitate communication between edge devices and the customer’s cloud, ensuring that data is transmitted seamlessly and securely.

Thanks to the SIMPro platform, Hispaled’s managers can remotely manage their SIM card inventory - regardless of the carrier - and activate SIM cards through the platform as they scale their various lighting deployments.

The result

LED Lighting for Connected Cities

Hispaled has grown steadily over the past few years and currently has tens of thousands of lighting points managed remotely through its RF Light 2 platform, supported by Wireless Logic’s communications and private network infrastructure.

Furthermore, a new paradigm is emerging due to a regulatory environment that is driving manufacturers and installers to connect their lighting fixtures individually via Narrowband for new deployments. In this context, Wireless Logic provides a solution perfectly tailored to these regulatory requirements thanks to its Conexa private network, which offers a specific solution for LPWAN projects.

"In Wireless Logic, we have a reliable and consistent partner to help us scale our project. Not only do they provide us with a robust infrastructure and an advanced management platform, but their connectivity experts also advise us and help us adapt to new connectivity requirements within an evolving regulatory framework."
