Housing association and council customers work with AGS to spot early warning signs that could lead to health risks and costly repairs. That way, they can act quickly to protect vulnerable residents, reduce callouts and prevent property damage. Overall, environmental monitoring contributes to better public health, reduced energy costs and more sustainable housing.

AGS carried out a pilot to assess the reliability and consistency of IoT connectivity for its sensors, but encountered inflexible data plans from cellular providers. This prompted the company to contact Wireless Logic for a more resilient connectivity solution.

Cellular connectivity is ideal for AGS, as the landlord is the client, not the resident, so sensors cannot rely on tenant Wi-Fi. Cellular IoT also gives AGS control over connectivity.

However, in the pilot stage, AGS uncovered unacceptable connectivity issues that jeopardised the continuous availability of data from its sensors and had potential to impact and impacted AGS’ operational efficiency.

The constraint stemmed from a fixed data plan that capped each device’s monthly usage, with no option to scale or adjust the allowance. AGS immediately looked for an alternative solution that wouldn’t carry this limitation and therefore risk of data loss.

AGS carried out a strategic review of its connectivity needs and evaluated several providers.

“Wireless Logic offered the kind of robust, IoT-specific platform we needed,” says Ben. “It stood out for its sector expertise, multi-network capabilities, strong support and management platform that gave us full visibility and control over our SIMs and data usage.”

Conexa, together with SIMPro, was the recommendation to overcome the challenges AGS had experienced. Conexa’s multi-network SIM delivers reliable connectivity with automatic switching to an alternative network should the primary network be unavailable. SIMPro gives AGS insight into data usage and a simple platform to order additional SIMs.

The AGS/Wireless Logic partnership yielded immediate results. The Wireless Logic solution doesn’t carry the jeopardy of exceeded data limits, AGS has found SIM ordering to be quick and simple, and connectivity has been consistent. Less time spent dealing with SIM administration and connectivity issues has freed-up AGS staff to focus on customers.

“The impact has been very positive,” says Ben. “Device deployment and management is efficient. The data is timely and complete and gives our customers the information they need to act when they need to.”

AGS is now exploring ways to expand its analytics and integrate new technologies and expects Wireless Logic to support that evolution.
