Showerkap makes every drop count, measuring water usage with sensors connected by Wireless Logic

The collaborative partnership gives Showerkap the consistent, scalable IoT connectivity it needs to help businesses consume less and save more.

About

Showerkap combines technology with behavioural science to help businesses monitor, manage, optimise and reduce water and energy use and lower CO2 emissions. This is delivered through an innovative shower valve with a physical ‘nudge’, sensors that deliver detailed data analytics for smart management via the cloud system and a mobile application for individual users.

Showerkap’s business strategy is focused on some of the planet's biggest consumers of water, such as hotels and purpose-built student accommodation, addressing the urgent need for water conservation and adoption of net-zero targets.

Showerkap’s unique system features small, smart boxes in each room to collect real-time data on water temperature, energy use, and carbon emissions.
This data is sent to a central cloud dashboard for remote monitoring and management.

Challenge

England experienced the driest start to spring in 69 years in 2025. Globally, water scarcity impacts 47% of the population. Water is a precious, life-giving resource but businesses and consumers must curb their usage.

Hotels are a case in point. They can use up to 8 times more water than their local communities. The challenge is to monitor usage across basins, baths and showers and develop strategies to encourage guests to reduce consumption by, for example, using the half-flush on the toilet, turning off the tap when brushing their teeth and taking shorter showers, by combining technology with behavioural nudges, it can drive a ripple effect making mindful water use the norm, not the exception.

Gints Skieris, general manager at Showerkap’s customer Sandman Signature Gatwick Hotel, explains: “We are excited to be the first hotel nationally to adopt this new technology, which will benefit our local community, guests, staff and the environment.  This will enable users to monitor and reduce water usage and, at the same time, empower people to make more eco-friendly decisions that will hopefully become part of their daily lives. We look forward to providing guests with the same high standards, while offering them the chance to be part of a unique initiative, which is kinder to the planet and which we hope the hospitality industry will collectively embrace to bring about significant change .”

Solution

Showerkap approached Wireless Logic following a recommendation. The team there helped refine Showerkap’s scope of its needs and recommended an appropriate SIM, together with an LTE Teltonika router.

“One of the reasons we went with Wireless Logic was the customer relationship we had,” says Paul Harding, director of technical operations, Showerkap. “The team delivered what it said it was going to, and did it very quickly. Any teething issues or concerns I had were swiftly resolved, that's the best one could hope for.”

At the Sandman Signature Hotel, sensors are deployed across the site feeding data to a single router with a multi-network SIM that transmits the information to Showerkap’s cloud-based application. This ‘IoT mesh’ approach optimises data usage by spreading the load across the site.

“When performing a software update, I was concerned about consuming a large amount of the allocated data. Wireless Logic explained that our pool of data could be allocated accordingly, this would ensure we had sufficient amount per site.”

Showerkap found the collaborative IoT solutions provider it was looking for in Wireless Logic. The company receives data consistently so it can generate the dashboards its customers need to pursue their water reduction strategies.

Part of the beauty of the Wireless Logic connectivity is its simplicity. Paul explains: “We wanted a plug-and-play solution, nothing over complicated to set up, which allows for a smoother installation process.”

Showerkap’s customer, the Sandman Signature Gatwick Hotel, is delighted with the insights it has received. They show potential weekly savings, for just one floor of the hotel of over 5,500 litres of water and 17.81kg CO2e. If they reduced by that much they would save 27.5% in water use, 29% in CO2e and 29% in water and energy bills per week.
Another benefit of the Wireless Logic provided solution is the capability to go beyond borders, with a roaming SIM that can connect to other networks in other countries, as Showerkap considers its expansion plans. Paul is confident the scalable solution it has from Wireless Logic is future proof so it can continue to equip Showerkap as it pursues its marketing and sales objectives.

''Confidence in the system has enabled us to focus on the business
and developing the technology further. It has taken away any concerns
because we know we’re working with a really trusted partner.”
