From Theory to Practice: My Summer Internship with Wireless Logic

Summarising my intern journey so far. How I’ve embraced diverse roles, hands-on learning and career aspirations in the dynamic tech sector.

I’m Amelia Baker, currently midway through my 8-week internship at Wireless Logic. As I reflect on my experience, join me in exploring the dynamic world of tech and internship life…

Doing a degree in Business Management means I get the chance to learn the theories behind business in a lecture theatre daily, but the opportunity of doing an internship allows me to gain a stronger understanding of the everyday operations and turn my learning into practice.

Transitioning into the Tech Sector

I’ve always been very passionate about building a good career for myself one day and pushing myself to what I know I’m capable of. I’ve had an array of different jobs and internships in the past, from being a receptionist, sales assistant, qualifying to be a beautician and personal trainer, and doing internships in supply chain and marketing and now with a virtual part-time job in creating social media content for a food development company (I know, It’s a bit of a random mix!).

Even though I have work experience, I still didn’t know what to expect when I started at Wireless Logic as I had never had experience working in tech before. At the start I was apprehensive that I might not have the correct skillset, coming from a more creative background, however, everyone at Wireless Logic is so welcoming and made each day so engaging and insightful from training to giving me projects to complete. I can now confidently say that I have embraced the challenges, and as a result it has improved my problem-solving and communication skills as well as gaining valuable knowledge about the tech industry. Therefore, giving me more confidence in the workplace from working in different teams where you are encouraged to share your ideas and views.

Hands-On Learning

So far, I have gained experience in a number of departments. From learning to activate and terminate SIMs on client accounts in Operations, sorting accounts payable invoices in finance, and conducting research in Marketing to contribute towards future social media campaigns and designs. I have been very fortunate to be able to work in different teams, seeing all aspects of the business and collaborate with talented individuals that contribute to Wireless Logic’s success.

The Importance of Internships for Career Development

I believe work placements or internships are so vital for your career preparation as it gives you the opportunity to learn through experience, develop your skillset, and have your CV stand out to employers. I think they’re also important for pushing you out your comfort zone and trying new things.

As a result of my time with Wireless Logic, I have realised I would love to continue working in the tech sector one day.

I am thoroughly enjoying my time with Wireless Logic and am very excited to see what the next few weeks have in store. Hopefully it’ll lead to a permanent position one day (fingers crossed)
