Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) is transforming the broadband landscape by offering a wireless alternative to traditional wired internet, making it an ideal solution for various industries and environments. Instead of relying on fixed infrastructure like fibre or xDSL, FWA uses 4G, 5G, and satellite technologies (primarily Starlink) to deliver fast and reliable internet, making it a versatile hybrid option in situations where wired connectivity is impractical or unavailable.
Even without Starlink, latest generation 4G LTE services combined with the rise of 5G, with its ultra-fast speeds and low latency, had already made FWA an attractive choice for use cases like temporary business locations (retail pop-ups), construction sites, and remote offices, where quick setup and mobility are key. In these environments, FWA provides high-speed internet without the delays and costs associated with traditional fixed-line installations.

Use the cellular and satellite hybrid for resilience and maximum coverage
Industries which require reliable on on-the-go connectivity such as maritime, logistics, and transportation are also benefiting from 4G, 5G, Starlink with combinations of all three being used to deliver connectivity for moving vehicles like ships and trucks. For instance, maritime vessels can now stay connected even in the middle of the ocean and on rural riverways ensuring smooth vessel operations and communications for crew welfare and passenger services.
Similarly, remote or branch offices located in areas underserved by fibre can use FWA based on that combination of 4G, 5G, or Starlink for reliable connectivity central headquarters or to cloud-based services. Satellite can augment the cellular connection (bandwith and coverage) or serve as a failover to cellular (or vice-versa) to provide the bests of both worlds.
FWA has many benefits for Enterprises
FWA’s flexibility and scalability make it an essential tool for industries that require reliable, on-the-go connectivity or need a fast, temporary internet solution but as we touched on above, but there are also cost of ownership benefits for Enterprises.
Lower Infrastructure Costs - FWA eliminates the need for physical cables, reducing both setup costs and ongoing maintenance costs for businesses. Businesses in areas without fiber-optic infrastructure can get high-speed internet without waiting for fiber to be laid, which can take months or years.
Cost-Effective for Multi-Location Businesses - Enterprises with branches in multiple locations, including rural or underserved areas, can benefit from FWA to provide uniform internet connectivity across all sites, without the need for multiple ISP contracts and infrastructure costs.
Support for IoT and Digital Transformation - Many industries, such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics, are increasingly reliant on Internet of Things (IoT) devices and sensors for operations. Starlink can power IoT devices in remote locations (e.g., farming, oil rigs, or mining operations) where cellular coverage or traditional infrastructure doesn’t reach.

Get started with hassle-free FWA
In our experience, most Enterprises want some or all of the benefits described above but don’t want the hassles associated with installation of new, often unfamiliar technology and equipment. For example...
5G and Starlink antenna positioning and installation.
- Starlink antennas (the dish) are designed to auto-adjust themselves to the optimal angle but elevation and placement is still critical as is clear line of sight with the sky and the orbiting LEO satellites.
- 5G also requires a clear line of sight between the cell tower and connected devices. These high-frequency signals (especially high-band mmwave signals) can be easily obstructed by walls, buildings, trees, or even weather conditions. As a result, careful planning is needed to install antennas in locations that minimize obstructions and maximize coverage.
Multi-WAN balancing
- A fundamental part of a hybrid FWA solution is the on-site router which has to be carefully configured to manage connections between satellite and 5G networks, using features like automatic failover, multi-WAN (wide area network) balancing, and advanced bonding technologies to ensure high availability, seamless transitions, and optimal network performance. Think of a vessel approaching the shoreline or emerging from beneath a bridge or perhaps an outage. The on-site router had to manage these transitions and failovers seamlessly.
This can indeed all be delivered hassle-free. Our Enterprise Connectivity solutions include packages which provide site surveys, installation, activations and a fully managed service with an SLA and fixed monthly price. Connect with us here to explore this further.
